I'm only asking because I have been pulled up about it a few times by Youtube on some of my films and wanted to avoid it in Future

A funny thing...

This video got copyright infringement because supposedly the sound of the engine had copyright from "Music Publishing Rights Collecting Society" biggrin

When they think that song belongs to some one else, youtube adds advertising to your video and people can see the itunes link and name of the song on the description. They don't block your video unless the owner of the song says it.

I made a video a few months ago using the Space Odyssey soundtrack and got blocked world wide.

The situation is, If I made money out of my videos it'd be understandable but some copyright rules are simply stupid. People listen the song I say, hey I want to buy it!. So indirectly I am helping the music industry to promote that song.

Another alternative is to use free music or make your own. If you know a good site with free music just let me know.

All these copyright laws are focused on maximization of profit of sellers, not musicians! Musicians takes their money primarily from concerts, not from selling music in Internet or on CD. Sellers' greed sometimes knows no limits, so they go to goveremnt and lobby through new copyright © laws ©.

Unfortunately having had some films shown at film festivals I am aware that anything becomes untouchable unless you have full rights. I even had to ask a rock band to sign a contract so I could use their track on a video, luckily they agreed to the contract and asked for no money, but they were on their own recording label and it is very unusual for anyone to give that kind of permission.

I stopped going down that road because the issues were so great it was just not worth the effort. Now I just make odd clips for fun and am not so interested in the media lovies who like to draw us into their world by handing out prizes at film festivals.

The closest we ever got to winning an award was coming runner up to a professional media house who used a Hollywood actress for the dialogue (Claudia Black IMDB) Still it was nice to rub shoulders with these people for a while.

I found anything signed by EMI would be stomped on by youtube, but now they are actually stomping on unlicenced production music from houses like Extreme Music and tracks like the one you used.

Wish we could go back to the good old days when these idiots didn't even know what the internet was smile

I don't believe it, Claudia Black has the film "Stolen Life" as an entry on her IMDB page, that was the film we came second to at the film festival.
