Hi. I would like to know if there is any way to put two distant objects side by side so we can compare their appearance.
For example, I would like to put the sun by canis majoris. Is such a thing possible ?

No and Yes. No direct method, but you can write a script like this.

Code

// Size comparison SUN - VY Canis Majoris

Star "Sun-like star"
{
    ParentBody    "VY Canis Majoris"
    Class  "G2 V"
    RadSol  1
    MassSol  1

    Orbit
    {
  SemiMajorAxis    9.3584219717388
  Period  1e12
  Eccentricity    0
  Inclination    0
  MeanAnomaly    0
  AscendingNode    0
  ArgOfPericen    0
  RefPlane    "Equator"
    }
}

This sets a sunlike star next to VY Canis Majoris.

This goes well with several stars. I have a script which sets several major stars and Sol in orbits around UV Scuti, currently believed to be the largest known star. These are not the orginal stars, so behind every name a (CS) (Comparison Star)

Position:

Exposure should be set low, for example 0.1 (F7 key)

Of course, the system chart can be accessed with the 0 key.

I remember in Celestia that you could open a side by side screen which was great for comparisons. I would love to see something like that implemented in Space Engine.

- Go to object 1
- Center screen on object 2
- Move backward very far, without changing your direction
- Zoom on

But that does not make a reasonable size comparison.

However, you could open two instances of SE.
