| Isn't that a map of the cosmic background radiation? That's neither actually visible nor is it actually still being emitted (it's light that was emitted a few hundred thousand years after the big bang, only reaching us now due to great distance, not actually something that is still there at that position)
I occasionally stream at http://www.twitch.tv/magistermystax. Sometimes SE, sometimes other games.

| Betelgeuze, Apenpaap is clearly referring to the sphere, not the galaxies. That is a representation of the cosmic microwave background (CMB), but it makes no physical sense to render it in this manner in Space Engine. As he said, the CMB photons don't actually exist at that distance -- they exist everywhere with the same density. Rendering them as a sphere around Earth is too geocentric. They shouldn't be rendered anyway because they are microwaves, not visible light.
I would mention that a similar problem exists for the galaxies as well. These data are from the 2df redshift survey, which covers only a very small fraction of the sky. It's cool in that it clearly shows the large scale structure of the universe through those slices, but the problem still is that SpaceEngine already portrays the large scale structure very well, and in a homogenous and isotropic manner as the real universe actually is. Including these data would be a huge step backward in that regard. They are very far from homogenous and isotropic.

| Hard work. I think we can apreciate that a lot. Thanks Betelgeuze.
I'm also with the rest. Vladimir is going to add the galactic surveys to the next release of Space Engine probably. So this would be added plus the procedural part.

You mean 0.97.2?

Yes, It seems that SE can handle billions of objects now in it's catalogues and could load them in very tiny amounts of time.
At least for 0.9.7.2 it's going to be possible so probably it would be added

| Quote Betelgeuze ( ) SpaceEngineer here map of universe sphere
I know what is it. At the end, my speciality in astrophysics is cosmic microwave background. But as many told you here, actual microwave background is not a sphere, but uniform distribution of photons. Entire Universe is filled with them uniformly. That map is a map of a tiny temperature variance (~10-6) of the black body spectrum of those photos, as seen from the Earth. It slowly changes with time (on a time scale of millions of years), because new photons reaches Earth, and those photons are come from more and more big distance, resulting in less black body spectrum temperature.
Actual Universe is not a sphere with a boundary, it shouldn't be rendered like that. This is simply incorrect. From any given point, observer could see a galaxies around him, but he couldn't see any objects (galaxies of background radiation) what a farther than 13.7 billion light years. But this doesn't mean what Universe have a wall at this distance. This is simply because Universe exist 13.7 billion years, so light from more distant objects still didn't reach the observer (and yes, actual Universe is greater than 13.7 billion light years). If you get teleported to a galaxy 10 billion light years from Earth, you will still see a "sphere" of a radius of 13.7 billion light years, filled with galaxies, with your galaxy at a center. You cannot go outside the Universe - everywhere you will run into the same galaxies, distributed like a 3D foam, exactly like in our region of space. This even doesn't depend on the accepted model of the Universe itself: whether it is infinite of closed.

| Whoosh!
Now I feel dumb as shite. Maybe I should abandon my hopes of doing something similar but with a different aspect and simply enjoy what you're doing. Maybe once you do get a game going, I can mod it with the goals I had in mind for my own game and not try to reinvent the... universe. This is way over my head.
Oooo, look, a planet. Let's go look at it. Yeah, that's how I feel right now.
