Greetings fellow universe explorers!
In this topic i want to ask you all when do you think the first space engine based game may be released and how would you imagine it to be or like it to be... biggrin happy

My view is that the first game will be released in about 5 years from now... smile

That is cause of the incredibly ambicious project a game based on this engine is...

And when it were to happen i would like it to have a simple start menu with options to create your own universe by seed for procedural generation, size of the universe - Where the player decides how big his universe might be (say you have a large box where you insert a number to define the size - insert 1 if you want the universe to be the size of the observable univrse, insert 2 if you want it twice that size, insert 3 if you want it even bigger or on the other hand insert X if you want an infinite universe where as far as you go -and if your computer allaws it- you keep finding trillions of galaxies) (example of size 84394876938745870004949 biggrin )
Another option for the density of galaxies - where the player chooses how many galaxies there should be per cubic Gpc - and that's about it...

Then the gameplay itself i envision it as a mixture between strategy and role playing.
Also it should have amultiplayer option where every player can make his/her server and invite other players (much like minecraft) and an official server (i recommend that server to have a infinite universe) where players all over the world join that server if they don't wanna be gods over their own universe...

It will be released when it is ready, and it will be ready when it is done. And that's all there is to it -- I really do not think that there is anything profitable about speculating timelines here. smile

Agree with you but you forgot to say how you envision this game to be... happy

With the release of No Man's Sky on the PS4, the future of Space Engine might be a rocky one. Development is too slow, and other game developers, upon seeing the inevitable success of No Man's Sky, are going to race ahead and produce their own space simulators.

The age of the space sim is almost here and competition is about to get serious. Space Engine had the upper hand for a while. It was unique. But there's fear of it falling by the wayside.

No man's sky seems unrealistic, has floating land masses and all.

Space Engine can be an enciclopedia of human knowledge about the universe.
That's far beyond what simple games can be, ever.

One day SE could be part of a state programm financed with our taxes as they do with many museums or planetariums to make SE something continuosly developed and enhanced by the scientific community (I immagine every single discovery been added to the software by a team of programers) to show the people the conquest of the human scientific knowledge daily, to inspire the new generations and researchers on new paths (maybe all of this in a office building of the Science Ministry dedicated to the programm with a series of supercumputers and with an administration similar to a library where you go when you want). Maybe some day we could go the afternoon there to explore the universe in a comfortable place and see part of our culture (like in a museum).
Well that's dreaming to much maybe xDDD but I think that is the atractor por Space Engine's path.

Games come and go, but if this proyect is well done for the first version it could start to expand and develop with the help of some research centers and the funding of science organizations around the world. D'Alembert would be amused of that smile

No Man's Sky is a very impressive piece of work, and you are right that there may be quite a bit of competition facing SpaceEngine in time to come. However, Space Engine has a particular quality that most of these others do not share. Realism. If there is one guiding principle to the development of Space Engine, it is emphasis on realistic portrayal of astronomical scales and physics, and filling in with real data wherever possible. It therefore presents as hard of a sci-fi setting that there can possibly be in such a game, and I think that will be a strong selling point when it is on the market.

I completely agree. In terms of scientific accuracy and realism, Space Engine wipes the board. No Man's Sky will only ever be a game. A very fun game I'm sure, but still just a game, and because of this it will never be superior. But it will pave the way for other developers. They will see the success of No Man's Sky; how much people enjoyed the freedom and the experience, and they will begin making their own universe simulators. Whether they are FPSs, or cockpit space shooters, one of these developers will eventually do what Spaceengineer is trying to do. They'll make a scientifically accurate universe, and they'll make it tomorrow. It'll probably end up being somebody like google.
