Another realtime video of aurorae:
https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=425644230918979

Recorded yesterday in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. Worth looking through. Must have been a pretty bright display since they were fliming this right outside the front door of the hotel and didn't bother to walk away from the glare of the street lights.

How is it possible taking footages like that one? Longyearbyen only has 2,000 inhabitants so maybe the street lights aren't so disturbing smile

We had some Christmas aurora today. Nothing spectacular, we almost never get impressive displays here. I made a video from one of my meteor cameras: aurorae. Compared to the recent videos, it's pretty dull, though. smile

EDIT: I see in the chat that Antza saw the same aurora, so let's wait for his stuff for something more impressive. smile

This is a nice video showing 24 hours of continuous aurora activity, from Svalbard: http://kho.unis.no/Media/211214_DSLR.mp4

(Also note all the lights zipping through the sky. These are satellites in polar orbits.)

I found this article about the auroras of Ganymede and I wanted to share with you, because if the atmospheric compostion was matched with that of earth then we would see some great auroras over there and I wonder if Space Engine is going to render this kind of auroras soon or later smile

OMG I have not seen this since my childhood, when I lived in Murmansk (70°N)

I am very lucky to be able to see the aurora at Saint-Petersburg (60°N), the combination of 3 events is very rare (once per 10-20 years): powerful solar storm, clear sky, no Moon.

It was very hazy in Oslo and only Jupiter was visible - and a fine display of the aurora corona! It's very rare to see the corona this far south in Europe. Perhaps a once in a solar cycle event.

My meteor cams recorded it.

This picture is taken in Western Australia smile Of course it's more common the further south you go, but it's not impossible to see from Australia, especially in the southern parts such as Tasmania smile

0.0 Wow. I was trying to imagine an aurora with the aussie 'outback' night sky and that's the closest I've seen/imagined. I've now decided i'm moving to WA no matter the cost. Where in WA? I'm suspecting near perth.

The dark skies of Australia with the southern Milky Way AND auroras would be a magnificent view, probably more beautiful than one could imagine smile I'm not sure where this was taken, probably in the southernmost parts of WA. Looks like it's the southern coast. Just make sure the skies are dark, and that there are a geomagnetic storm going on, and you should be able to see it smile

Great shots Antza2! I'm really disappointed that I missed it sad
