It's official! After five years of preparation and deep thinking, more than ten years of image-engineering, I've finally managed to deliver the world the most fantastic, the biggest look-alike-EVE Lens Flare for Space Engine! WARNING: Use of this product may make your SE experience much more awesome. Use at your own risk.

There are two versions, one is for having Auto Exposure OFF and one is for having Auto Exposure ON.

Screenshot:

Installation instructions:

First, you may want to make backups of the original SE flares in case you dislike these, so you don't have to unzip spaceengine again to get the originals, backup flare.png and lens_flare.png from SpaceEngine(versionnumber)\data\textures\common
1. Download the files below

a) If you prefer having Auto Exposure OFF use this flare:
http://en.spaceengine.org/_fr/7/5247724.png

b) If you prefer having Auto Exposure ON use this flare:
http://en.spaceengine.org/_fr/7/5108022.png

c) Then download this one:
http://en.spaceengine.org/_fr/7/0946149.png

Rename the first png (the one which you chose, Auto Exposure on/off) to flare.png and the second (rectangular png) to lens_flare.png and drop both into SpaceEngine(versionnumber)\data\textures\common and choose overwrite.

I didn't actually search for it because I just didn't think that people made lens flares, and I liked the original one too (well, the one in 0.94). The one you say looks really good, I'm going to test it.

Sorry if I am the only one to have a different opinion but honestly this lens flare effect, although very beautiful looking, is totally unrealistic. Juat check out http://cdn.arstechnica.net/Gaming/ISS%20Sun%20near%20set.jpg . Can you see a horizontal flare? This effect is very very nice but I don't think it is realistic. It would only appear for a few secs when the star comes into the field of view and then dissapear and become like the picture above. Again sorry if I made someone unhappy but it is my personal opinion sad

neutronium76, lens flares made for SE are meant to simulate the lens flares from purpose built professional video cameras, which usually either produce a 6-spiked flare (like the default), or a horizontal flare if using an anamorphic lens (like the addons that have been posted on this forum thus far). The flares from still photo cameras look very different, and that's not the kind of look that SE is going for.
