So yeah, I like how open this program is that you can make planets, I made a planet from the Halo video game series called "Reach"

Its mostly a Frankenstein job, I copy and pasted some values from earth and Pandora and edited them to fit the Game's info on the planet, here is the result

I might lower the cloud density a bit. But I think it looks good.

You did this in SE right? I guess so since you used pandora.

Hey that's really cool... I didn't know you could do that. Maybe
we should create a forum called Texture Modding n you could do
a little tute on how you did it to help people get started. Let
me know what you think n I'll get Vova to create it. Nice
job on the texture too. smile

The texture is part of the engine, its created based on the parameters I put into the planets code.

I basically told the program what I wanted and it created it.

Its not that hard, I looked at the code in the "\data\catalogs\planets" folder and played around with it, using Pandora and some of the Terraformed planet values in the "Solarsystem3000" file as a template.

Maybe we need a wiki where I can describe script parameters, then write it to some tutorials. I'll ask the site admin if this is possible.

j0KeR, no, it is impossible. You might only create a cubemap texture for a planet from actual photo data (like this one done for Earth, Moon etc). Or paint it manually, but this is hard to do in photoshop. I don't know of any software that can do it.

Anyway, in future releases I will implement generation of procedural details for real planets (that have those textures stored on the disk). So it will be possible to create low-res upper texture levels of a planet with some software, then you can manually paint continents, mountains etc, and then engine can automatically generate procedural detail levels up to 1 cm based on your low-res map.

Don't stop tinkering though, it'd be good to know what the limits are for modding smile
